Room 408, Monday Afternoon
Well. Jonothon's first day of classes had been... Educational.

In Science class, he'd been offered a position as a TA, which had caught him off-guard, really. The people gawping at him when he'd spoken in that Religion class was a little more like what he'd been expecting ever since he'd arrived here, though people seemed to rather consistently take his voice in stride right up until that point.

He was trying damn hard not to dwell on any of it too much. He would have to head into town sometime, to see if they had a music store of some sort. And he needed clothing. He could hardly wear the same outfit for the rest of his time here, and laundry was a particular challenge when you didn't have the option of standing around shirtless, anyhow. He'd have to ask Ben what he knew about the places in town where he could get both or either.

For the time being, he'd settle for flopping backward on his bed and staring up at the ceiling.

Ceilings were bloody boring.

[[The door is open if anybody wants to poke at the kind of smelly guy. Will be a shameless linkdrop soon enough, as well. Because I'm just sneaky like that.]]

Jenny smelled new kids.

Well, actually, since except for around twenty minutes immediately following her shower Jenny wandered around in a miasma of cigarette smoke and gin, she didn't smell much of anything, though she did think she caught a faint whiff of rotten eggs on fire. But she knew there had to be new kids around here somewhere, and she was a woman on a mission: she was going to welcome them and convince them to vote for her for Student Council before they knew any better.

"Knock knock," she said, leaning in the doorway and puffing on a Silk Cut. If the very posh accent didn't give away her country of origin, the Union Jack t-shirt probably sealed the deal. "Jenny Sparks, I live down the hall."

She just so happened to wear that Union Jack well, at that. Jonothon approved of both the shirt and the accent, even if his own was considerably less posh and noticeably more East End.

//Jonothon Starsmore,// Jono replied, sitting up to look at her warily. //And I don't.//

Live down the hall, that was.

Jenny arched one eyebrow at him and drawled, "Right." Then she said more normally, "I should hope you don't, or whoever does live in this room will be rather annoyed to come back and find you in it, I would think." She paused, then added, "If you can communicate in some other manner, I would apprecaite it. If you can't, carry on, but I'd advise you to bloody well not go digging in my head. My shields'll make your brain bleed."

... Well. That was a somewhat appreciated sort of warning, even if Jono actually couldn't go poking around in her head anyhow.

//It's one-way telepathy, luv. Like a radio or somesuch. I can't go digging about. I wouldn't particularly want to. Can't talk otherwise, though, so if yer lookin' for nice, normal conversation, yer might want to try someone with a mouth.//

"Oh, I don't mind," Jenny assured him. "So long as, like I said, you don't go digging in my head. If you can't we're golden, far as I'm concerned. How are you finding the place so far? Frightening? Bizarre? Just like home?"

//Just like London? There's a lark.// Jono might have almost smiled, there. Not being able to tended to get in the way of such things. //Too quiet for that. Cleaner, too. If anything's bizarre, it's how people tend to react to the bizarre, really.//

"You never can tell," Jenny said with a laconic shrug. "Some people have strange homes. A lot of people here are from places where weird is a lot more commonplace than it seems to be for others. And even if you're not, you tend to get used to it after the third person in your history class insisting they're from the year 3000 or Mars or Camelot."

//Camelot?// Look, Jono was a good British boy. He knew the legends as well as anyone. There were some place names that just jumped out at a guy, like it or not. //Yer joking, luv?//

"I'm not making it up," Jenny said. "They haven't a bloody clue, so let's try not to break history and possibly England, mm?"

...

//Bloody Camelot,// Jonothon repeated, shaking his head a little in a mixture of amusement and disbelief. //They'll not hear a word of it from me, then. How'll I know it's them?//

"Well, there's two about I've met and I think there's a third from radio," Jenny told him. "Your first clue'll be that their names are Arthur and Merlin. And Morgana's the third. Merlin's a bit of a gawky chap. Big ears. Arthur's blond, and a bit of a prat, so I'd think I was wrong if he wasn't Prince Arthur Pendragon from Camelot. Good-looking, though." The legendary figure so nice Jenny hit it twice.

Jono wouldn't boggle. Jono wouldn't boggle.

Someday, Jono would meed Dracula, and his learning to not boggle in the here and now would do him wonders then. Really.

Kinda.

//All three of them, then? Next we'll be facing down Lancelot or something at the bloody drawbridge.//

Not that... there was a drawbridge anywhere. Or anything.

"Nah," Jenny said. "Usually, it's like. Zombies or angry crocodilians or something."

//Oh. Well, if that's all...//

His induction into the realm of weird enemies had involved a mutant marrow-eating dimension-hopping individual who looked vaguely like a crossbreed between Snuffleupagus and an anthropomorphic purple porcupine, with mouths in his hands. Zombies sounded easy enough.

//And that happens fairly regularly, does it?

"At least once a semester. Sometimes it rains pudding or whatever, though, or people turn into animals. What year are you in, Jonothon?" Master of the subtle directional change, that was Jenny.
