Room 408, Monday Afternoon
Well. Jonothon's first day of classes had been... Educational.

In Science class, he'd been offered a position as a TA, which had caught him off-guard, really. The people gawping at him when he'd spoken in that Religion class was a little more like what he'd been expecting ever since he'd arrived here, though people seemed to rather consistently take his voice in stride right up until that point.

He was trying damn hard not to dwell on any of it too much. He would have to head into town sometime, to see if they had a music store of some sort. And he needed clothing. He could hardly wear the same outfit for the rest of his time here, and laundry was a particular challenge when you didn't have the option of standing around shirtless, anyhow. He'd have to ask Ben what he knew about the places in town where he could get both or either.

For the time being, he'd settle for flopping backward on his bed and staring up at the ceiling.

Ceilings were bloody boring.

[[The door is open if anybody wants to poke at the kind of smelly guy. Will be a shameless linkdrop soon enough, as well. Because I'm just sneaky like that.]]

Little did Jonothon know that there would apparently be a conga line of girls who wanted to talk to him that afternoon.

Raven had tracked down Jonothon's name in the student directory to find his room number, so that afternoon she went up to the fourth floor and knocked quietly on the doorframe. "Jonothon? It is Raven, from Lady Ghanima's class this morning."

Jonothon was clearly the most popular boy with no lips in the entire school. He'd be flattered, if it wasn't a little worrisome.

//I remember yer,// he replied before he even bothered sitting up. A moment more of staring at the ceiling, and he eventually did that, too. //The conversation I had with yer was one of the harder ones to ignore, today.//

"May I come in?" she asked. "Or if you wish, I could return another time."

//The door is open,// he noted, nodding slightly. //I won't make yer stand in the doorway. Even I'm not that rude. Come in.//

He could be rude. But there was a time and place. She... wanted to help. He could appreciate that.

Raven moved inside the room. "What happened to you?" she asked, drawing near the bed. The scars were bad enough, and she couldn't help but wonder what the wrappings hid. "I am sorry -- it is rude of me to just ask like that."

Jonothon flinched. It was just in the eyes, a quick wince before he turned his gaze elsewhere. But he did. The 'how' wasn't something that he had discussed much since the 'when' of it, really.

//It's complicated,// he replied, and he was going to let it sit at just that for all of a moment before he added, a shade more quietly, //I happened to me.//

Raven bit her lip when he flinched. She certainly didn't want to add to his discomfort. "How long ago?" she asked softly. "Are you in pain?" She wasn't sensing pain from him, but it could merely be because he was used to it, or it was buried under the other feelings she was picking up.

//It was a few months back. The pain was...//

Overwhelming, at the time.

//Brief. It doesn't hurt any more, no.//

"That much is a blessing, at least," Raven said. "Though I can sense your emotional pain. I told you I am a healer, but what I truly am is an empath. I am able to feel the pain and emotions of others and use my gifts to relieve them as best I can."

Jonothon found himself looking at her, long and hard, trying to figure out what in the world he was to make of that.

//Emotional healing, yer mean?//

The stubborn Starsmore in him insisted that he was just fine and he didn't need any part of it. Of course, his brain insisted otherwise.

"Emotional, and physical as well," Raven said. "The only thing I have found I cannot heal is death." So far at least.

Jonothon considered that again, turning his gaze toward the floor. It was simple enough to take her words at face-value, considering the things he'd seen over the past short while. But at the same time, there was that lingering uncertainty... That terror under the surface that he'd have to feel himself being blown apart all over again.

That someone else would get hurt when it happened, again.

//I'm going to maintain that yer'd have yer work cut out for yer, in this case,// he ventured. //As it stands, I'm not entirely certain what's keepin' me alive.//

Raven took that to mean he was seriously disfigured under the wrappings due to whatever had happened to him. Little did she know.

She sat down on the bed next to Jonothon. "May I see what you are concealing?" she asked. "Please do not be afraid. It will not bother me."

Jonothon now had that look about him of a man who was seriously contemplating if he ought to be backing toward the door, or giving the woman what she was asking for.

It was a difficult call.

//Yer'd be surprised,// he said, even as he put a hand to his face, slipping his fingers just slightly under the top of the bandages. Just enough to show off the steady glow of what appeared to be flame.

Not what she was expecting. Her eyes widened a bit, but she didn't show any fear or shock. "It is like that everywhere underneath...?"
