The Massachusetts Academy, Early Spring
Jono had a dilemma.

Or, more accurately, Jono had a whole host of dilemmas, all wrapped up into one tidy little envelope, sitting on his nightstand and staring him in the face. In part, of course, because of his face. The letter was, after all, from Xavier. And accepting the proposal in the letter meant a good many things. Leaving Massachusetts. Leaving Angelo and Jubilee and the others behind. He'd done that once before, when he wound up on Fandom Island, and he wasn't entirely certain if doing it now counted as running, or simply moving forward.

And there was the rest of the dilemma, there. Things had been insane for the members of Generation X, lately. Busy, heartbreaking, not particularly easy, and everybody was dealing with these things in their own ways. Surprisingly, the biggest changes to be seen were in Emma and Sean, both of whom were beginning to worry the surviving members of the team. Now would be some pretty rotten timing for Jono to take Xavier up on his offer to join the X-Men. Right?

His eyebrows furrowed a little as he stared again at the letter, and then shook his head, shoving it into his nightstand. He'd sleep on it for a few more nights, and maybe that would help him figure out just where he wanted to go from here. In the meantime, he was pulling out his phone and firing off a short e-mail to his friends.

Believe it or not, I miss you guys. How have things been?

Jonothon's conversation-starting skills needed work. But it was either this, or listen to Paige go on about rescuing trees from some money-hungry oil corporation for the millionth time.

[NFB for distance, but Open for texts, e-mails, surprise multidimensional visits, anything you don't need a mouth for. If you figure your character got Jono's amazingly verbose e-mail, they did, sure! I'm actually around again! Yay, around again!]

An hour in Fandom worked out to about four in Jono's Massachusetts, which left Jonothon with plenty of time to do something that vaguely resembled a tidying-up. If, by 'tidying up,' one meant that he'd shoved a large number of records into appropriately labelled boxes, shoveled his laundry into a hamper, and then changed the kitty litter.

Yes. Yes, that did take the better part of four hours. Why?

When Raven arrived, he was sitting on the edge of his bed, congratulating himself on a job that was more or less done. He jumped only a little as she arrived, it had been a few months since he'd last seen somebody just kind of swoop into existence in front of him like that, but he shook it off easily enough and stood, making his way over to greet her with a hug.

//Hello, Sunshine. Missed you.//

2011-06-26 10:47 pm (UTC) (Link)

"I wish there was a way for me to knock before I appear," Raven said, moving into his arms and hugging him tightly with a happy smile. And of course she was doing a quick empathic check to make certain he was uninjured.

"I hope I did not keep you waiting long," she said, lifting her head from his shoulder and sending him a kiss.

She'd probably be pleased to know that Jonothon was completely uninjured, beyond the old wounds that his mutation had cursed him with. There were a few guilty undertones floating around the emotional side of things that hadn't been there before, and there was a fair bit of uncertainty all around, but none of it was because of or directed at Raven, at least.

//Not terribly long,// he replied, once he'd recovered from that weak-in-the-knees sensation that was vying for dominance over all of those other feelings. It had been entirely too long since he'd felt a kiss, as well. //Gave me time to plow a walkway across th'floor of my room.//

Okay, his room was cleaner than that. A little.

2011-06-26 11:05 pm (UTC) (Link)

She was very pleased by that, and while she noted the feelings of guilt and uncertainty, she filed that way to ask about later. She didn't want to be nosy and press when she'd only just gotten there.

But that didn't mean she was letting go yet. Three weeks was far too long, and she even longer for him.

"I appreciate the effort," she said, lifting a hand to his face. "But I come to see you, not your room. I do not mind." Well, as long as there was a walkway of some sort.

2011-06-26 11:11 pm (UTC) (Link)

//Really? But it is a room worth coming to see, I think.// He was teasing lightly, now, as he reached his hand up to clasp hers, holding her fingers against the skin of his cheek. //There're so many interesting things in it.//

Most notably at the moment? Raven. She was certainly the one thing in the room that was garnering the most attention from Jonothon, at least.

//You've been well, then? Really? Aside from errant literature and a moving island?//

2011-06-26 11:16 pm (UTC) (Link)

"Aside from the spiders, Fandom has been relatively quiet," Raven said, nodding. "Some of them were small, but others were much bigger, the size of large dogs," she said. "They were not alive, so I could not affect them with my gifts, but I could take them into my Soul-Self and dispose of them elsewhere so they could do no harm. And the rest fled after but a day, and then the island moved."

She lightly stroked her fingertips against his cheek above the wrappings, just enjoying touching him, then asked softly, "And what have you been doing?"

2011-06-26 11:34 pm (UTC) (Link)

//I could almost make a list,// Jono replied softly. //Things I've been doing since last we saw one another. Rescuing helpless children from fates worse than death. Facing off against th'Juggernaut. Tripping over bits and pieces of parts of th'school. Same old.//

And some not-same-old mixed in for good measure. Not that burying a friend was a new experience for him, but it was hard to be blase about that sort of thing. Ev had been a good man.

2011-06-26 11:41 pm (UTC) (Link)

"Do you want to talk about it?" Raven asked, sending warmth and comfort with her touch. "Or do you wish to forget about it for awhile? I will listen or distract, whatever you need."

2011-06-26 11:49 pm (UTC) (Link)

//Perhaps a bit of both,// Jonothon admitted. Talking, he imagined, wasn't going to do much to help Raven stop worrying about him while they were apart. Things hadn't exactly been perfectly safe at the Academy over the past few months, after all. But there were things that he was aching to get off his chest, that he couldn't just unload on the other mutant students of the academy. The same things were bothering most of them as well, after all. //Sit with me for a bit? I've missed you.//

... Which they'd already established. But still.

2011-06-27 12:00 am (UTC) (Link)

"Of course," Raven murmured.

She pulled away, keeping her hand in his, and moved over to the bed. Sitting down on its edge, she tugged gently at him to draw him down beside her. As soon as he did, he'd have an arm around his back and a head against his shoulder.

2011-06-27 12:12 am (UTC) (Link)

And that... that was nice. His own arm snaked around her back in turn, his fingers running idly through her hair. Jono had missed her. He'd missed this. It was...

It was nice. There were probably better words for it than that. But 'nice' was the first that came to mind. Familiar. Comfortable.

//I want to talk, I think,// he admitted, after a moment of that closeness. //I just wouldn't have any idea where to start, Sunshine.//

2011-06-27 12:22 am (UTC) (Link)

"You are feeling some guilt about something," Raven said, giving him a place to begin if he wished to take it. "What happened? What is causing that?"

She moved her other arm across her body, letting her hand fall on on his leg as she leaned against him.

2011-06-27 12:32 am (UTC) (Link)

//That...// Jono lifted a shoulder slightly. He wasn't brushing anything off, really. He was digging, trying to find the words. //A rumour started circulating around th'school that there were mutants taking classes alongside th'human kids. That went over... about as well as you might expect. Riots. Panic. Parents swarming in. And in th'middle of it, there was Adrienne, who'd already tried t'kil th'lot of us, and she'd planted bombs in th'school. Set to go off right there, mid-riot. We managed to get most of them.//

2011-06-27 12:44 am (UTC) (Link)

Raven bit back a surge of anger, hating this world again for how it treated people like Jono. It wasn't fair how her mother's world was accepting of those with powers, and Jono's treated them like they were monsters.

"Adrienne -- your headmistress, who is related to Emma?" she said, remembering what Jono had told her at the Strawberry Social. "Why would she...?"

Then it sank in what he'd said. "Most of them? But not all? Was someone hurt?"

2011-06-27 01:34 am (UTC) (Link)

Jonothon didn't reply for a few moments more before finally coming up with words.

//Everett. One of us. Everybody made it but Everett. He tapped into Monet's power as best as he could from as far apart as they were, and he used himself to shield th'bomb. The rest of us were trying to evacuate th'building when it happened.//
